Funny enough I didn’t set an income goal yesterday for my blog I made very little money. (I don’t even know how much because I wasn’t tracking it! Because there was no goal!)
Maybe about $50?
Now, even funnier, is I had forgotten last week I set my income goal and HIT IT! And I set what I thought was a really high weekly income goal, considering it was 1st week of the month (they are my lowest income earners of the month).
And I smashed past my super stretch goal of $1700 and made $2200!!!
Does Setting Income Goals Work?
Does setting an income goal directly relate to achieving that goal? That is something I have been thinking about….
For me, the income coming in is from work previously done (like affiliate payouts from 1-3 months ago, or ad revenue from 2-3 months ago or membership recurring monthly) and that has very little to do with the work done that day or even that week.
But I do know yesterday I missed some opportunities. And they were sitting on my To Do list (like sending a final 24 hours email and a Facebook live video) and I DIDN’T DO IT.
I didn’t prioritise it.
I didn’t have clear direction and a goal to aim for money wise, so I kept ticking off the list.
I understand the work is important. I get that. I have been doing this for years. But I also know that there will always be stuff at the bottom of the To Do list that will never get done. That aren’t prioritised at some STAGE! And don’t get DONE!
Usually (USUALLY) they are the MOST important to actually get results and actually achieve my goals.
What are my income goals?
While I didn’t write my daily or weekly goal yesterday, I do have a monthly income goal of $5k.
By not bringing awareness back to the end goal.
By not bringing energy to the end goal.
By not sticking to the work that gets me to the end goal.
Then I won’t achieve that goal (well, very unlikely).
By asking myself the question – How much do I need to earn this week to achieve that goal? How much do I need to earn today to achieve that goal?
And THEN work out a new To Do list with true priorities and the truly important stuff on that list.
Well, I am going to miss that mark. I am not going to hit my income goal. (I have been there and done that).
Monthly income goal:
Goal – $5000
Stretch goal – $5500
Super stretch goal – $6000
Weekly income goal:
Goal – $1300
Stretch goal – $1500
Super stretch goal – $1750
Daily income goal:
Goal – $300
Stretch goal – $400
Super stretch goal – $500
Well, that is totally doable!
The super stretch goal has become a lot less scary since starting this exercise of writing a goal. And then stretching that goal and then super stretching that goal!
I hit that super stretch goal …. A LOT! More often than I hit the first goal! I couldn’t even tell you what percentage of time I hit the goals.
At a guess –
I don’t hit my goal – 20% of time (like yesterday)
I hit goal – 20% of time
I hit stretch goal – 10% of time
I hit super stretch goal – 50% of time!!!
That is some pretty cool shit.
I will actually start tallying my daily/weekly/monthly goals and reviewing what I hit because I love accurate numbers and shit and not guessed numbers. Want to find out the final results? Enter your name and email address below!
