How I track my monthly data, email subscribers, stats, and numbers I need to measure, to know and to grow and improve my blog (ie: helps make me $7k p/m) with a simple Excel spreadsheet.
I have been in business 7 years (now) and until September 2014, I had no idea of my numbers.
How many email subscribers?
How many sales?
How much website traffic?
How many YouTube subscribers?
I couldn’t tell you any of those numbers!
In fact, I remember going back to look at my YouTube channel 2 years after it started and I had 5 000 subscribers! And I had no idea! #facepalm
That was when I started uploading more videos on YouTube, but I wouldn’t know to do that, without going back and looking at my numbers.
This is one (of many) reasons you need to be measuring and tracking your numbers. I do it via a monthly report I call ”Happy Fun Time Monthly Numbers”. Why? Because reports = boring. And I wanted to make it seem more fun!
And I do this report every single month. On the 1st of the month.
It took a while to turn monthly reports into a habit (at least 6 months) and I would get done as soon after the 1st as possible because I was working full time. Sometimes it would be the 10th of the month(!) but I wasn’t hard on myself. Doing it was the priority.
Then it became FUN. Like ridiculous fun. I could see how far I had come in the 6 months, 9 months, 12 months. There would be wins I hadn’t realised without doing the report. So I naturally became more excited for the 1st of the month and see how I did!
And it makes the bookkeeping get done so that I can fill in the report.

Now, I know my numbers.
- 13 000 website hits per month (as of September 2015. Nowadays, 80,000 page views per month in May 2017).
- Organic google ranking #1 for over 80 sets keywords
- 4956 email subscribers (as of September 2015. Nowadays, 18,000 email subscribers in May 2017).
- How much money I made last week and last month. (Last week, $3003 and so over $7400 so far for May 2017).
Note – I now use ConvertKit for building my email subscriber list and creating new landing pages/opt-ins. ConvertKit for the win.
Because what isn’t tracked can’t be improved.
You need data to make informed decisions.
For example when I look at the information I break down the income into categories (like memberships, affiliate, ad revenue, own products, mentoring, etc) and look at what percentages % I am earning (like 30% membership, 30% own products, 15% affiliate, 15% ads, 10% mentoring). That is really interesting! You can read my income reports here.
Looking at the information is lots of different ways.
More than that – you need to celebrate & *high 5* the wins and hitting the milestones! Because that is why we are in business and stopping for a couple of minutes, looking back and celebrating how far you have come is important (as giving a child a sticker for job well done).
Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to fill it in TODAY. #missionimpossiblestyle
