Getting traffic and people to your website is important and it is one of the most common questions I get asked by new bloggers.
In the first 4 weeks of this blog, I got 2,111 page views (7 February – 7 March 2017). I had actually started mid-January but the Google Analytics wasn’t yet connected up. For the month of March (just 6-10 weeks later), I got over 4,000 page views.
The Google SEO traffic will come in time, at least 6-12 months (of course, if you are SEO’ing your blog posts). Be patient and stick with SEO, it will pay off in the long run. SEO is more of a marathon strategy and below 5 tips are a quick sprint strategies to get more traffic to your website.
Here is how I started getting traffic to my blog.
5 Tips to Get Blog Traffic
1.) Friends and family.
Tell people that you know ”hey, I have started a blog”. Your friends and family will initially be your biggest supporters.
Now, bare in mind, they might not know what a blog is. Or may not have a particular interest in what you are blogging about and that’s okay (don’t take it personally and that ‘they aren’t supporting you.) If I was a fashion blogger I would be okay that my brother just isn’t interested!
I shared my blog on my Facebook page and on social media where I already had friends and family connections. I also text or private message some friends and family, too. Instead of saying, ”hey, check out my blog and support me”. Instead, I suggest saying, ”I have a website with cake recipes and cake decorating. Would you be interested in recipes?”
This is where I get the most traffic to my website, at the moment.
I post at least 3 times weekly to my business page. Then I share to my personal page.
3.) Facebook groups.
Also, I spend time inside Facebook groups, where my target market is hanging out. I do this because I know this is where and how I will get traffic to my website. Currently, I spend about 20 minutes per day (which I schedule in.) I have a blog about blogging, so I hang out in blogging groups. What do I do? Be insanely helpful.
What do I do in Facebook groups? Be insanely helpful. My motto is to help 1 person per day. Because I have been insanely helpful to someone, some people ‘stalk’ me and go to my personal page, which connects to my bus9iness page, which links to my website. (I make it easy for someone to ‘stalk’ me, on purpose!)
If I notice I have helped people with the same query and answered it multiple times, then I will write a blog post and direct people to that article.
4.) Own Group.
I created my own group – which is essentially a Facebook group.
You can call it a group, community, school, forum, mastermind – what your target market love and are looking for!
It is a way to start conversations, get to know people, help people and of course if I have content (blog post) to direct people to, more the better!
While Facebook currently leads the social media race, I know Pinterest will bypass within just a couple of months.
Pinterest is perfect for blog + websites in as little as 10 min per day, I get up to 340 page views in a month (for this website). My pinning (& repinning strategy) got me 5 times website traffic little as 6 weeks, on my other Angel Foods website which I started 12 months ago.
Nowadays I use the Tailwind app to schedule my daily pins and it takes me about 30 minutes per week to schedule that in.
Bonus – Direct Traffic.
Remember, the traffic that you are getting are important! You want them to keep coming back for more! How do you do that? Well, you need to be capturing email addresses via an opt-in and sending email newsletters with your latest blog posts.
You don’t need to reinvent the wheel. You spend all that time trying to get traffic to your website and a percentage will like what they see or read. It isn’t crazy to think they will want to hear more from you.

Those email newsletters, that is driving the same traffic back to your website, is direct traffic. And is actually really important part of your SEO strategy, as well. As Google recognises that the same person (same IP address) is coming back for more and therefore makes the assumption your site must have good quality content.
