As I write that number, I shake my head in wonder, at how I actually achieved that. It seems like magic.
Because only 12 months previous, I made $15k. In 12 months I five (5x) timed my online business income.
And for 2018, I plan to double to $150k.
I remember sitting down about 12 months ago and setting the income goal of $80k. Remember, I had never made that money before! It seemed like a big, hairy, scary number!
And I find it hilarious that I made nearly the EXACT amount. Just $1073.74 difference. What you ask for is what you receive. The universe has a funny sense of humour.
Below is how I made my money, but I do suggest you read these articles in conjunction with it.

WHAT HAPPENED IN 2017
- -I worked full-time in my business. I quit my day job in October 2016 and this was my first full year of working full-time in and on my business. I would say that is why I didn’t earn much in the previous 12 months.
- -Retired my boyfriend. Hottie Boyfriend quit his day job in April and he works with my on our businesses. This business fully supports us both + a family + a mortgage.
- -The simple life. I enjoy living simply, being mostly self-sustainable and a frugal life. I don’t or want for much (except internet and a couple of pieces of software, like email system and shopping cart and hosting). We don’t like drama or anything other than simple.
- -Custody. The direct opposite of simple. We self-represent for my boyfriends daughter and in the last 12 months I have done about $40,000 worth of legal work.
HOW I MADE $78,926.26 in 2017
Obviously, I think setting income goals works. I do monthly goal planning and review (see what worked and didn’t work last month) and realign the business to the main yearly goals.
I write down the goals on a piece of paper and bluetac to the wall in my office.
When I journal, I write down and remind myself of the goal to help stay on track, focus and it helps increase PRODUCTIVITY. (Less tangents … look there’s a squirrel!)
Writing down (daily) keeps at top of mind AND it starts training my brain (conscious and subconscious) that the number is possible and I can achieve it. And then the work I do during the day, week, month, year is working directly in relation to that goal. I don’t drop it like a diet.
I act, as though, as if that income goal is already true.
Hot Tip – write the income goal in PAST tense. Like you are writing in 1 years time ‘’I earned $150,000 in 2018.’’
GROWING EMAIL LIST
I am a firm believer that my income, my business and my sales comes from sending out email newsletters. It is how I can share my content (blog posts, podcasts, videos, etc) and build a relationship and the ‘’know, like, trust’’ factor. And therefore that equals sales.
We all know that you can’t rely on Pinterest or Facebook or any social media platform for the foundation of your business. You don’t OWN the platform and can’t control it
An email list you own and have a much greater control over. Remember, it’s all to share you content and be able to help people and that is a beautiful thing.
I swapped to ConvertKit in 2016 for my email database and am in love with it. (Strange to say about a software, but it is true). I know some of the behind-the-scenes of CK personally, they have sent me flowers in rough times and are just the nicest people.
The email list grew through opt-ins, landing pages and content upgrades, which I made many (because they only take about 2-5 minutes to create, so easy!)
I haven’t really referred to my membership as my signature program, but it kinda is. The main income earner is ‘’Cake Business School’’ membership site which makes up about 60% of my yearly income.
I think having a ONE THING that is the main focus and giving it love and attention (and an intention for growth) over a long period of time pays off in bucket loads.
CBS was/is at the end of every single thing I do. It is the main opt-in and email sequence and has the answer to nearly all inquiries and questions I receive.
As a recurring payment option, it is passive. A good percentage is monthly income, some of it is 6-monthly, 12-monthly or lifetime membership. All different price points and different bonuses.

The book + system made a huge impact on my business this year. It was recommended to me by a mastermind mentor when I was in a low place.
It is a bookkeeping and business profitability system that has turned my business around. From numbers that use to look terrible, to now look brilliant (like, I have less than 18% operating expenses!)
The Profit First book became my lifeline and now like my business bible. I make no decision (buying, spending) without thinking of how it fits into Profit First. (It makes it very EASY to make decisions!)
Plus it showed me what is profitable and best income earner and how to concentrate on that and improve it!
Profit First will be a part of how I double this year to $150k.

I have done several collaborations and joint programs this year, which I have never done before.
I did a live cake business Round #1 with a cake decorator bestie who is like a A+ gold star student of mine, since 2012. The process of having 2 people creating (not just me, myself + I) was FUN. And exhilarating. Round #2 is open at the moment and we are planning on offering 4+ times in 2018.
In the mastermind I met Claire, another business owner/blogger and we started working together on projects. First offering Mentored Mastermind in September last year. The experience was so enjoyable and our skills and experience so complimentary (plus, she is nerdy cool) that we collaborated on ‘’Blog Business School’’ program, which is a membership site. And create the content, marketing plan and implement together. It’s the fucking bomb-diggity.
I was in a 6-month mastermind last year and it would be remiss not to mention it. Now, I don’t believe that my income is directly related to the mastermind. I would of done it anyway (I’m pretty confident, self-motivated and self-aware).
BUT, what I did get is friends. That was sorely missing from my life. As a nerd, introvert, hermit, working at home, I don’t get out much. And find it even harder to make friends.
Not only that, over time, I trusted these people. I shared the hard times, the ugly cries and the WTF moments. And I had support 24/7. People who were THERE for me, immediately and in a heart-beat. They really did give a shit about my business. I have never experienced that before.
The community – that I could pop into at a moments notice and get a reply nearly instantly. The support, guidance, brainstorming, advice from 10+ others.
The accountability ‘’Rebekah, how did you go with doubling your price?’’
The love ‘’Rebekah, you have been quiet lately. Are you okay?’’
Cause I lost my cool several times this year. More than I can count. It has been a hard year. And I had a crew in my corner.
WHAT ARE YOUR INCOME GOALS FOR 2018?
Claire + I just opened another 6-month Mentored Mastermind (only open 1 more day, until 25 January 2017) with course resources, workshops, training, community, accountability, support. All the good stuff.
